Busting Gender Bias in Computer Science and Cyber Security

Our initiative, proudly funded by the Science Foundation Ireland Discover Programme, is dedicated to breaking down gender barriers in the fields of computer science and cyber security. Through an innovative blend of science, arts, and humanities, we challenge gender bias and stereotypes that often discourage young women from pursuing careers in these vital areas.

Using Philosophy for Children (P4C) and storytelling, we foster a growth mindset and sharpen critical thinking skills, empowering girls to see themselves as future leaders in computer science and cyber security. By showcasing inspiring women leaders in these areas, we create emotional connections that ignite ambition and provide powerful role models for the next generation of cyber trailblazers. Together, we are shaping a more inclusive future in science and technology.

Related Projects

Busting Gender Bias in Computer Science and Cyber Security is part of a larger movement to empower young women through hands-on, engaging experiences in technology. By creating synergies with related projects such as First Lego League, Zero Days Capture the Flag, and Challenge-Based Learning Days, we amplify our impact and broaden opportunities for girls to explore coding, robotics, cyber security, and problem-solving in fun and dynamic ways. These projects are infused with the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Global Citizenship Education (GCE), encouraging participants to address societal challenges and real-world issues through technology. By fostering critical thinking and social responsibility, we provide a supportive and inclusive environment where girls build the confidence and skills they need to tackle pressing global problems and thrive as tech-savvy, socially-conscious leaders of tomorrow. Together, we are driving a collective effort to inspire and equip the next generation of female leaders in STEM.

The Cyberwise Shared Learning Day was a comprehensive educational event focused on the intersection of cybersecurity and Global Citizenship Education (GCE). Held in April 2024, the day featured a variety of engaging activities, including a Zero
Days Capture the Flag challenge, where participants tackled real-world cyber and GCE issues.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the most transformative innovations of our time. While AI offers substantial benefits to individuals and society, it has major implications for privacy, ethics and security.

The ADAPT Centre offers a free modular workshop programme to help Transition Year (TY) students navigate the Age of AI successfully and safely.

The Challenge-Based Learning Day, held in October 2023, immersed students in the critical societal issue of cybersecurity and its connection to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This event aimed to deepen student’s; understanding of cybersecurity’s impact on various aspects of life and its essential role in achieving sustainable development.
