Busting Gender Bias in Computer Science and Cyber Security

We are proud to announce that our 2024 Annual Adventures in Cyberland initiative is funded by the SFI Discover Programme (focus on busting gender bias in computer science and cyber security) and the Shared Island Civic Society Fund.(the intersection between social media and climate action).

An information webinar took place on Tuesday 24th September.

Competiton details 
  • Who may enter: This initiative is open to primary and post-primary pupils/students
  • Format of projects: We will accept projects in any format of the students’ choice e.g. PP, Prezi, Short Video, Digital Story, Essay, Poster, Artistic Interpretations, Raps, Poems etc. The aim is to enable students to demonstrate their knowledge of cyber security issues across a range of areas. While we are spotlighting gender bias in computer science and cyber security and the intersection of cyber security and sustainability, we will accept all projects that have a cyber security related theme. 
  • Individual and group projects: We will accept individual and group projects. The maximum size of a group is 6 students/pupils.  
  • Judging of projects: A cross section of educationalists, academics and government officials will form part of an interdisciplinary judging panel. A rubric will be posted to this site in early October. 
  • Shortlisted projects: Schools will be notifed no later than two weeks before the awards event of students that will be invited to the event. All participating students will be receive a certification of participation that will be posted to their school. The initial shortlisting will involve the award of a participation, bronze medal, silver medal or gold medal  status. Depnding on the number of entries,  a select number of medal winners will be invited to exhibit their projects at the awads day in December.
  • Prizes: There will be a number prizes across themed categories and year groups – further details to follow.
